Associate Curator, Contemporary Art and Programming

  • Conducts research and writing that illuminates the museum’s holdings and expands its interpretative possibilities; improves and maintains collections records, object and donor files. Makes recommendations for development and refinement of the collection including acquisitions and deaccessioning; makes recommendations on the loan of the Museums’ objects requested by other institutions.
  • Initiates, coordinates, and executes the planning and organization of both internally and externally generated special exhibitions. Plans and organizes exhibitions; develops budget estimates; corresponds with lenders; coordinates exhibition production with other personnel; assembles data and photographs; prepares labels and interpretative materials, researches and writes catalogues and brochures.
  • Builds and maintains departmental relationships with artists, dealers, institutions of higher learning, collectors, and critics, while also fostering collegiality and support among museum colleagues. This also involves patron and collector development.
  • Presents lectures and docent talks and conducts tours of the permanent collection galleries and temporary exhibitions for donors, trustees, and the general public as the need arises.
  • Spearheaded diverse programming initiatives, including partnering with the SFJazz Collective to host concerts at both institutions wherein the musician performed compositions inspired by works in the permanent collection
Assistant Curator, Contemporary Art and Programming

  • Curated contemporary exhibitions and gallery rotations (see SELECTED EXHIBITIONS).
  • Work with contemporary artist to develop original exhibition proposals. Perform research for exhibitions including research on artists, periods, styles, and on specific works. Executes catalogue and lecture preparation, as well as preparation of checklists, wall labels, and other exhibition graphics.
  • Manage administrative operations of the department, including in-house actions required for the permanent collection maintenance and exhibition; correspondence pertaining to in-coming and out-going loans; prepared departmental budgets; managed departmental expenses.
  • Oversaw the department migration of the contemporary collections data into TMS and ensured the proper documentation of the collection of all new acquisitions. Assigned and expedited technician and photo services requests as required to ensure the appropriate care and maintenance of the collection in gallery and storage areas.
  • Worked with colleagues in registration and conservation to create standards and institutional best practices regarding the acquisition, conservation, storage and documentation of time-based media (digital media, videos, site specific performances, sound pieces, etc.)
  • Supervised junior staff in the department, including the Collections Cataloging Fellow and all interns.
  • Work with the development department in creating and maintaining relationships with museum board members and donors, including leading private events and tours.
Curatorial Assistant, Contemporary Art and Programming

  • Curated contemporary exhibitions and gallery rotations (see SELECTED EXHIBITIONS).
  • Participated heavily in exhibition research, loans and related educational materials, including writing didactics and pieces for in-house publications, preparation of digital presentations and research projects.
  • Managed administrative operations of the department, including in-house actions required for the permanent collection maintenance and exhibition; correspondence pertaining to in-coming and out-going loans; inquiries from other institutions, the press, and public, following institutional and departmental protocol and procedures.
  • Established a system of organization for the permanent object files and is responsible for their continuous updating and maintenance.
  • Managed correspondence with artists and prepares related travel and expense reports. Scheduled and coordinated travel for the Curator, organized documents and filed expense reports.
  • Spearheaded efforts to create an internship program for the department that trains young professionals from diverse backgrounds in the skills necessary to work in curatorial roles.
Administrative Assistant, Executive Office
October 2016-April 2017
  • Managed the Museums reaccreditation process for the American Alliance of Museums.
  • Coordinated special events for the Director of Museums and the Board of Trustees; including the submission of all required paperwork.
  • Created and maintained accurate mailing lists for the Director of Museums, as well as the Trustees mailing lists; worked closely with the Development Staff to ensure that the lists were current in the Raiser’s Edge database.
  • Indexed and archived the official record (minutes of meetings) and resolutions adopted by the Board of Trustees.
